Hi, I'm Peggy Bussert

I have over 20 years experience as a mathematics classroom teacher in both middle school and high school.  In addition to mathematics certification, I also held special ed and gifted certifications.  I tutor all high school math subjects Algebra through Calculus.  My M.Ed. held an emphasis on Diagnostic-Prescriptive Teaching.  This instructional approach is tailor-made for the subject of math.  As a result, I am firmly committed to the belief that no one is "bad" at math and that all students can learn to be proficient at math if provided with the right tools.

 

Unfortunately, in classrooms of 30+ students, it is difficult for most classroom teachers to be able to individualize their instruction or to determine the particular struggles of each student.  This is why tutoring can be so beneficial.  The material can be

(a) previewed so that when the student hears it in the classroom, it does not sound so new or intimidating;

(b) clarified when there is confusion about what the student has heard in the classroom;

(c) retaught using language and methods when the student has not understood the material;

(d) taught when the student has missed critical days of school because of illness; or

(e) supplemented with foundational knowledge when the struggles are caused by lack of knowledge which should have been learned in prior courses.
